About DDSFC

Welcome to the Downriver-Detroit Student Film Consortium (DDSFC), a program dedicated to providing opportunities for students in Detroit and the Downriver area to explore their passion for filmmaking. Our mission is to empower and support young people as they develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the film industry.

The DDSFC was established in 2016 when a student, Noah Turner, approached the program’s founder, Scott Galeski, with a question: “How do I get involved in your films?” Galeski recognized the need for a program that would provide young people with the opportunity to learn the art of filmmaking and to pursue their dreams. We started as a small group, utilizing borrowed equipment, but over the years, our program has grown in size and success. Today, we have many professional volunteers who give their time to help mentor, train, and run the program.

We offer a variety of programs and services to our students, including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and other areas of film production. Our curriculum is taught by professionals from the film, music and related industries, who provide hands-on instruction and mentorship. Our program is inclusive and welcomes students from all backgrounds, including those who are at-risk, abused, honor students, and “hoodlums.” We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to explore their passion for filmmaking, regardless of their background.

At the end of each season, our students showcase their projects in a premiere, and a countless number of the projects have gone on to win awards at film festivals around the world. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and instructors. We are proud of the work that our students have accomplished and are excited to see where their talents will take them in the future.

We are always looking for ways to support our students and our program. We welcome monetary donations, equipment donations, and volunteer support. If you are a professional in the film industry and would like to give back to the community, please consider volunteering your time to help mentor and train our students.
